Maxx Davis' Goal in Third Overtime Gives Men's Lacrosse 9-8 Win over Sixth-Ranked Maryland

UMBC improved to 3-3 on the season and has won three of its last four games. The Terrapins had a two-game winning streak halted and are now 4-2.
The Retrievers had forced overtime as junior attackman Ryan Smith scored his team-high tenth goal of the season with 5.6 seconds remaining in regulation.
UMBC led, 7-5 after junior midfielder Kyle Wimer scored his second goal of the game with 4:11 remaining. But the Terrapins scored off the ensuing face-off and pulled ahead, 8-7, with goals at the 2:39 and 1:50 mark. But Wimer found Smith about eight yards away from the cage, and the attackman bounced his left-handed shot past Terp netminder Jason Carter.
Retriever junior netminder Jeremy Blevins made a brilliant save in the first overtime period, thwarting Grant Catalino on a fast break opportunity. The game appeared destined for a fourth overtime before
Blevins made 11 saves in nearly 72 minutes of action. Carter had six saves after entering the game at halftime, while starter Brian Phipps had five stops in the first half.
The win was UMBC’s fourth straight positive decision in overtime after a 3-0 mark in extra time last year. The team travels to
