Westervelt Named America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week

Senior attackman Drew Westervelt was named co-America East Confernce Player of the Week for games ending April 15, 2007. He shares the honor with Hartford attackman Tom Harris.

 

Westervelt scored the game-winning goal with one second remaining in the second overtime in UMBC’s wild 11-10 double overtime victory over Binghamton. He now has 98 career goals, two shy of becoming 11th Retriever to hit the 100-goal plateau. The Bel Air, Md. (John Carroll HS) native scored three goals and added two assists in the win and has back-to-back five-point games vs. league foes.  For his career, Westervelt has 43 goals and 23 assists (66 points) in 20 America East contests (3.2 ppg).

           He is the current fourth-leading active scorer in the country with 177 career points. He is tied for second on that list with 79 assists and seventh with 98 goals.

 

           Westervelt is tenth in the nation in scoring with 3.82 points per game. He is ninth in assists (1.91 per contest) and leads the America East Conference in that category.

 

           He needs two goals to become the 11th Retriever to score 100 in a career. The attackman is seventh on UMBC’s all-time scoring list and needs just two points to replace Jason Smith (’94) in sixth place. His 79 helpers are sixth all-time and he needs two more to replace Jay Robertson (’81) in fifth place.

 

           Westervelt has points in 17 straight games, which is tied for 20th in the country. He has scored 69 points (38g-31a) in that span, an average of 4.06 points per game. He has at least a point in 53 of the 55 games he has competed in at UMBC.
