Westervelt Scores Seven Points; Leads Men's Lacrosse Past Air Force, 13-7

The Retrievers will take on the host Pioneers tomorrow at 3:30 EST.
UMBC never trailed, as the Retrievers opened the scoing just 2:05 into the game, as Westervelt fed Andy Gallagher for a man-up goal. UMBC outshot Air Force 17-3 in the first quarter as junior midfielder Terry Kimener and freshman attackman Cayle Ratcliffe scored two goals each as the Retrievers built a 5-1 lead after one stanza. Westervelt scored back-to-back goals with a span of 1:38 in the second quarter as UMBC led 7-3 at halftime.
The Retrievers put the game away with four straight goals to open the third quarter, as they built an 11-3 advantage with 4:46 remaining in that quarter.
Freshman Kyle Wimer contributed a goal and four assists, while Gallagher and Kimener added two goals and an assist each.
UMBC sophomore netminder Jeremy Blevins was outstanding in the cage, making a career-high 16 saves, while only allowing five goals in 52:15 of action. Junior midfielder Taylor Marino won eleven of the 16 draws he attempted.
