RETRIEVERS RALLY FOR 7-5 LACROSSE WIN AT THE MOUNT

Three goals in the fourth quarter for UMBC (1-1) was the difference as the Retrievers came from behind to defeat Mt. St. Mary's, 7-5, at Golibart Field in Emmitsburg, MD. Junior Adam Shiley scored three goals and senior Gavin Stringer added a pair of goals and an assist in the win. Mount jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead, before UMBC cut the deficit to 3-2 at halftime. The teams each scored twice in the third quarter, as UMBC's Josh Gerber ended the stanza to get UMBC to within 5-4. Joey Kesterman got the game-tying goal with 6:47 remaining, and Stringer scored the go-ahead goal off a Jon Harasym feed with 5:04 to play. Shiley iced the game with 1:44 left on a feed from Franklin Berry. UMBC outshot the Mount, 38-26, but struggled on extra-man, scoring on just 1 of 8 chances. UMBC returns to action next Saturday at Cornell. The game can be heard on WNST (AM 1570), beginning at 1:55 p.m.
