UMBC's Brendan Mundorf Is First-Ever Player Selected by NLL's Expansion New York Titans in Entry Draft

9/14/2006

The expansion New York Titans chose former UMBC standout attackman Brendan Mundorf with their first selection in the 2006 National Lacrosse League entry draft and the 11th selection overall in the draft’s first round.

The Titans open their inaugural season on Saturday, January 6, 2007 when they travel to Chicago to take on the NLL’s other new franchise, the Chicago Shamrox. The franchise will play half of its eight home games at Madison Square Garden and the other half at the Nassau Coliseum.

Mundorf’s selection caps a terrific spring and summer for the Baltimore native. In May, he was named America East Player of the Year, led UMBC to a conference title and first bid to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships in seven years and earned All America honors. He was then selected by the Denver Outlaws of the Major Lacrosse League and was one of the league’s top rookies, helping the new franchise to the MLL title game. In just nine games, Mundorf totaled 22 goals and seven assists.

His MLL season was broken up because the Mt. St. Joseph graduate competed for Team Australia in the 2006 World Championships in Canada. Mundorf finished tied for third overall in the tournament with 32 points (24 goals, 8 assists) and helped the Aussies to a third-place finish.
