Burlington, Vt.—Sophomore midfielder Terry Kimener scored a career high four goals as UMBC remained perfect in America East play with a 10-6 win over Vermont in the Catamount’s Senior Day.

The Retrievers improved to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Vermont slipped to 8-6, 0-4. UMBC will entertain Stony Brook, also 4-0 in the America East, for the regular season title and right to host the America East Tournament next Saturday evening at UMBC Stadium (7:30 p.m.)

The Retrievers bolted out to a 4-0 lead as Kimener scored twice and James Hyland and Alex Hopmann added goals in the first 14 minutes of play. But the Catamounts scored with one second to play in the first quarter and, despite Kimener’s third goal of the day at the 10:39 mark of the quarter, rallied to cut the deficit to 5-4 by halftime.

But UMBC re-took control by scoring three goals in the first 5:35 of the third quarter. Evan Kay, Drew Westervelt and Brendan Mundorf were the goal scorers to put UMBC ahead, 8-4. Vermont would halve the margin midway through the stanza, but extra-man scores by Mundorf with 5:36 remaining and Kimener with 2:30 to play sealed the win and guaranteed UMBC’s first winning season since 2003.

Mundorf scored twice and added an assist and now has 98 career goals. Westervelt and Hyland each contributed a goal and an assist while Andy Gallagher posted a pair of helpers.

Face-off specialist Taylor Marino won 11 of the 17 draws he attempted as UMBC controlled 12 of 19 in the game. Freshman netminder Jeremy Blevins made three of his seven saves in the fourth quarter as Vermont outshot UMBC, 29-23. UMBC scored on all three of its extra-man chances.
