Junior attackman Andy Gallagher (Rockville, Md./DeMatha) was named America East Conference co-Player of the Week and freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Blevins (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) was named the league’s Rookie of the Week for games ending March 26, 2006. Vermont’s Jamie Kirk shared Player of the Week honors with Gallagher. Gallagher tied career highs in goals (five) and points (six) as UMBC upset 12th ranked Denver 12-8 on Saturday. He scored a pair of man-up goals in the first half, then scored three of UMBC’s fourth quarter goals, including the eventual game-winner as the Retrievers drew away from the Pioneers. He also had five goals and one assist in his 2003 collegiate debut vs. Mt. St. Mary’s. On the season, Gallagher has 11 goals and three assists and is tied for sixth in the conference in goals scored per game. Blevins made a season high 13 saves to slow down a potent Denver squad in UMBC’s victory. He was the first freshman to start the season opener for UMBC in the cage since 1993. Blevins leads the league’s full-time starters with a goals against average of 8.11.
