MEN'S LACROSSE ANNOUNCES 2006 SCHEDULE

Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Don Zimmerman has announced UMBC’s 2006 schedule, which will feature a rematch with the 2005 national champions, games against three other 2005 NCAA Tournament participants and a tough America East Conference slate.

The season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 25, when UMBC travels to Providence, R.I. to play Brown University. These two teams have met only once, 25 years ago in UMBC’s first Division I men’s lacrosse season. The Retrievers came away with a 13-5 win in Baltimore in 1981. After opening the home schedule vs. Air Force the following Saturday, UMBC travels across town to Johns Hopkins on Tuesday, March 7, to take on the defending national champions. After a gap of 20 years between meetings, the two teams played in frigid conditions in 2005, with JHU winning a narrow 9-6 decision.

After taking on Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on Saturday, March 11, the Retrievers open a five-game against NCAA semifinalist Maryland on Saturday, March 25.  The following two weeks will see a pair of television appearances by UMBC, the first against first-time opponent Denver (March 25) and the next is the America East opener vs. defending champion Albany (April 2). Both games will be televised by WMAR-TV/ESPNU.

UMBC concludes the homestand with games vs. 2005 NCAA Tournament participant Towson (April 5) and league foe Hartford (April 8). After two league games on the road, (at Binghamton, April 15, at Vermont, April 22) UMBC wraps up the regular season at home vs. fast-rising Stony Brook on April 29. Four of six teams will qualify for the America East Tournament, which will be played at the site of the #1 seed on May 5 and 7.
