Baltimore,MD—Junior attackman Brendan Mundorf continued his torrid scoring pace with 5 goals and 3 assists as UMBC (1-3) bested Canisius (0-1), 13-6, at Loyola College.

Mundorf became the 18^th player in school history to reach the 100-point plateau, as he has 69 goals and 34 assists in just 31 career games. Through four games this season, Mundorf has 14 goals and 8 helpers, with at least 3 goals in all four contests.

After losing three games to #4 Duke, #19 Ohio State, and #1 Johns Hopkins by a total of 6 goals, the Retrievers got out of the gate quickly vs. Canisius, scoring four times in the first 4:22 of play. After junior midfielder Andy Gallagher scored the game’s first goal just 50 seconds into the action, Mundorf posted points on the next three goals, recording assists on scores by Drew Westervelt and Rob Cross around an unassisted goal of his own. Mundorf scored on a fast break pass from Luke Reilly to give UMBC a 5-0 lead with 5:33 remaining in the first quarter, before Canisius’ junior midfielder Stephen Ola got the Golden Griffins on the board with 4:15 to play.

But the Retrievers would put the game away by scoring the next five goals to grab a 10-1 lead with 8:57 remaining in the third quarter. Freshman attackman Nick Fatseas scored with one second left in the first quarter and again at the 11:40 mark of the second before Mundorf notched a man-up goal at the 7:53 mark of the second quarter, and then tallied his fourth and fifth goals of the game in the third period.

Westervelt and Fatseas each posted 2 goals and 1 assist as eleven Retrievers hit the scoring column. Ola and freshman attackman Dan McAuliffe each tallied twice for Canisius.

UMBC is now 23-0 vs. current MAAC members.
