UMBC defeated Vermont, 10-4, in Burlington on Saturday to earn the final spot in the four-team tournament. Binghamton (9-5, 6-0 America East) defeated Albany, the league’s defending champions, 9-8, in Albany, NY on Saturday night and earned the #1 seed. Binghamton hosts #4 Stony Brook (8-5, 4-2) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The championship game, at the site of the highest remaining seed, will be held on Saturday, May 8.

UMBC won the tie-breaker and earned the right to host the semi-final game by allowing the fewest goals in the games played between the three tied squads. The Retrievers allowed 15 total goals, Albany permitted 17, and Stony Brook allowed 22.

The Retrievers have played one-goal decisions with all three tournament foes. They defeated Albany, 10-9, in Baltimore on April 3, fell at Binghamton, 5-4, on April 7, and dropped a 6-5 decision to Stony Brook at UMBC Stadium on April 24.

Albany won last year’s title, 7-5, over host Hartford, after an 11-5 home win over Stony Brook in the league semi-finals.
