MUSTON, WESTERVELT WIN AMERICA EAST MEN'S LACROSSE HONORS

UMBC senior face-off specialist Pat Muston (Novi, Mich./Novi) and freshman Drew Westervelt (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) were named America East Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively for games played through March 14.

 

Muston has been a dominant player over three games, winning 46 of 60 face-offs and garnering 20 ground balls. He won 17 of 22 draws at Duke, captured 15 of 19 vs. Ohio State, and took 14 of 19 in Saturday’s league win over Hartford. He tied a career high with 10 ground balls vs. the Buckeyes. Muston is currently ranked second in the nation in face-off percentage (76.7%,) and is tied for fifth in ground balls per contest (6.67).

 

Westervelt has pumped in six goals and added three assists over his first three collegiate outings. He amassed 4 points (2g, 2a) vs. Ohio State and then posted a season best three goals in the win over Hartford on Saturday. Westervelt owns UMBC’s top shooting percentage at 60.0% and has a pair of extra-man scores to date.
