Accolades: A member of the 2009-10 America East Winter/Spring Honor Roll... Named to the 2011 and 2012 Winter-Spring  Commissioner’s Honor Roll...  Selected to the 2012 America East Men’s Lacrosse All-Academic Team… Named a team captain for the second consecutive season.

2012: Moved from LSM to close defense and started all 13 games for the Retrievers… Led the squad (for the second consecutive season) with 15 caused turnovers and finished second with 39 ground balls…  Opened the campaign by recording five ground balls and causing two miscues vs. Robert Morris… Recorded season-best six ground balls in the 8-7 victory over Maryland on March 6… Forced two turnovers each in back-to-back games vs. Johns Hopkins and Loyola… Also posted an assist in the game vs. the Blue Jays.

2011: Took over as UMBC’s primary long-stick defensive midfielder… Saw action in all 13 games and led the squad with 12 caused turnovers… Finished third on the squad with 23 ground balls… Caused a pair of miscues and gobbled up four ground balls at Maryland on March 18… Scored his first collegiate goal, an insurance marker in the fourth quarter as UMBC defeated Albany on April 16… Added a season-best five ground balls in that key conference victory… Registered an outstanding individual effort in the America East semifinals- scoring a goal, adding an assist and causing a team season-best four turnovers at Hartford on May 4.

2010: Long-stick midfielder competed in four games and collected three ground balls… Played in the final four regular-season games, all against league competition.

Background: Majoring in political science... Amassed 514 ground balls, 27 goals and 13 assists during his tenure at West Seneca East… Named All-American as a senior… Selected as the West Seneca Male Athlete of the Year by the West Seneca Bee… A two-time First-Team All-Western New York honoree and a three-time First-Team All-League representative… Helped the Trojans to their first sectional championship (2008) in school history… Also lettered in football and was selected as All-League at the wide receiver position as a senior… An honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society… Served as class president as a freshman and sophomore… Has four siblings, Nick, Joel, Jack and Christine… Son of JoEllen and Nelson Murphy… Born May 29, 1991.
