Accolades: Named America East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week on April 11, 2011... The First-Team America East face-off specialist in 2012… Named America East Player of the Week for games ending April 21, 2012.  

2012:  Attempted 320 (7th in the nation) of UMBC’s 326 draws on the season and won 54.4 percent… Led America East in ground balls per game (6.31) and was second in face-off percentage… On the national level, Poe was 11th in ground balls per game and 20th in face-off winning percentage… His 174 face-off victories are the second-most in school history, only behind Russ LeClair’s 210 wins in 1984…Recorded 82 ground balls, the most for a Retriever since Nick Brownlee garnered 107 in 1997… Also produced eight points (4-4-8) on the season… Won 15 of 21 draws in the opener vs. Robert Morris… Scored goals in games vs. Rutgers and Fairfield, but impacted 8-7 upset win over Maryland, by controlling 15 of 19 draws in the contest against a team that entered the game at 61.4 percent… Scored a fourth-quarter goal during a UMBC rally which tied the game at 6-6… Won 53 draws and amassed 32 ground balls in three-game stretch vs. Vermont, Stony Brook, and Albany… Tied a school record by winning 22 face-offs in the 17-16 overtime victory over Albany on April 21… Attempted all 37 draws on the day and won 9-of-11 in the fourth quarter as UMBC rallied from a five-goal fourth quarter deficit… Scooped up 15 ground balls that afternoon, the most since Brownlee recorded 18 vs. VMI in 1997… Added a goal in the fourth quarter surge… Won 19 of 30 draws and garnered 14 ground balls in America East semifinal match vs. Albany on May 2.    

2011: Competed in all 13 games and took over as UMBC’s primary face-off specialist in late March… Finished second on the squad with 30 ground balls… Won 7 of 11 draws and corralled five ground balls vs. Quinnipiac on March 26… Had a big night vs. Towson on April 6, scoring his first collegiate goal and controlling 13 of 21 draws vs. the Tigers… Recorded a season-high eight ground balls in that contest and added seven ground balls three days later vs. Binghamton… Stalemated Hartford’s Tim Fallon, 8-8, on draws in the regular season finale on April 30.

Background: Captained the Stags in both 2009 and 2010… Coached by former Retriever Scott Morrison… Named First-Team All-WCAC in both his junior and senior campaigns… Part of WCAC championship team in his sophomore and junior seasons… Competed on the 2010 Maryland All-Star Team… Ranked No. 26 by Inside Lacrosse among incoming collegiate midfielders... A member of the National Honor Society… Majoring in political science and is considering a career as an attorney… Has an older brother, James, who is 22, and a younger sister Kelly, who is 15… Son of Dixie and Jim Poe… Born Feb. 22, 1992.
