Talented offensive player has suffered torn ACL’s in both knees almost exactly one year apart...was leading UMBC in scoring both years when he was injured...did not compete this fall after last spring’s surgery, but is expected on the field for the start of spring practice...changed from jersey #4 in his first two seasons to brother Matt’s #8 for 2005.
2004: Was brought into the season slowly, but opened the year with 1 goal and 2 assists vs. Duke, then exploded for points on 5 of UMBC’s 8 goals (2-3-5) vs. Ohio State...but after a 1-goal, 1-assist performance vs. Hartford, he tore the ACL in his right knee on March 15.
2003: Amassed 21 points, good for fourth on the team, despite playing in less than four full games…announced his arrival into collegiate lacrosse with a five-goal, six-point effort on opening night vs. Mt. St. Mary's…scored four points in each of the next three games…credited with the game-winning goal vs. Stony Brook…had a season high three assists vs. Dartmouth (March 19) before leaving the game in the second half with the torn ligament in his left knee…scored his 11 goals on just 21 shots and put 18 of his 21 shots on goal.
BACKGROUND: Half of the 23rd brother-combination to compete for UMBC lacrosse…Matt was a team captain for the 2004 squad...outstanding prospect who was one of the Washington, DC-metropolitan area's finest players in 2002…named WCAC Player of the Year and earned First Team WCAC honors in both his junior and senior seasons…also named to The Washington Post All Metro team and a high school All American…helped his Stags' team to a win over Georgetown Prep, the number one-ranked team in the nation at the time…also lettered in football and basketball at DeMatha…lists favorite movie as Braveheart and patterns his work ethic after the Wizards' Michael Jordan…in addition to older brother Matt, he has a younger brother, Danny, 16, who is a current lacrosse player at DeMatha…decided to attend UMBC to compete with Matt…interested in a career in law enforcement…son of Patty and Jay Gallagher…born January 13, 1984.
