Steady, poised inside defender who was the lone Retriever to start all 14 games on defense a season ago...fits very well into UMBC’s style of play.
2004: Recorded 30 ground balls in his 14 starts, and only committed 5 turnovers...corralled a season high 5 ground balls in the playoff-clinching win at Vermont...had 4 ground balls in two other America East games, at Binghamton and in the playoff game vs. Albany.
2003: Saw action in 9 games in his freshman campaign, mostly on man-down defense…displayed good overall athletic ability and played with poise, despite his newness to the game.
BACKGROUND: A Most Valuable Player, All-League performer and team captain of three teams during his prep tenure…earned those awards in lacrosse, ice hockey, and soccer…led the Salisbury School to its best ever lacrosse record of 13-2 in 2000 and was part of a state championship ice hockey squad…despite picking up a lacrosse stick seriously at age 16, he has excellent instincts for the game is considering a major in Engineering…enjoys carpentry…has three sisters, Nicole, 22, Brooke, 19, and Stephanie, 16…son of Denise and Paul Powell…born November 16, 1984.
