Purcahse Season Tickets for 2015-16 UMBC Men's Basketball!
BALTIMORE – The UMBC men's basketball program and the America East Conference released their 2015-16 schedules as the Retrievers will compete in their 30th NCAA Division I season and their 13th in America East.
UMBC will open the campaign by taking on national powers Wake Forest (Fri., Nov. 13) and St. John's (Nov. 16) in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Opening Games in Winston-Salem, N.C. and Jamaica, N.Y. The Retrievers open the home schedule by hosting local rival Loyola (Md.) on Thursday, Nov. 19, before quickly heading to Colorado for the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Regional Games at the University of Northern Colorado (Nov. 21-22).
The Retrievers return to the RAC Arena for a pair of home games against Patriot League foes Navy (Nov. 25) and Colgate (Nov. 28) bracketing the Thanksgiving holiday.
As the calendar turns to December, UMBC plays five of six on the road. The lone home game is when Mount St. Mary's visits the RAC Arena on Sat., Dec. 12 before the Retrievers play a couple of area road contests versus Howard (Dec. 19) and Towson (Dec. 23).
The final two non-conference games on the slate are at home versus UMES (Dec. 31) and at NJIT (Jan. 2).
UMBC opens league play at defending league champion Albany on Wednesday, Jan. 6 and opens the home slate versus Maine on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The Retrievers have four league home games and four road games in both January and February. UMBC wraps up the regular season at home versus Binghamton on Wednesday, Feb. 24 and at New Hampshire on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The America East quarterfinals will be hosted by the top four seeds on Wednesday, March 2, followed by the league's semifinals (Monday, March 7) and championship game (Saturday, March 12).
"Our non-conference schedule has a great mixture of home, away and neutral site games that will test our players and prepare the team for the competitive America East schedule," said head coach Aki Thomas. "Retriever fans can look forward to creating an electric home court advantage for some exciting games in the RAC, including matchups against in-state rivals Loyola, Navy, and Mount St. Mary's."
Game times and media will be added to the schedule later this month.
Notes: UMBC has never faced Wake Forest, Northern Colorado, Colgate and Bowling Green and either possible opponents Austin Peay or Cal Poly… UMBC has not competed in an in-season tournament since 2008-09, when they won Columbia's Tyler Ugloyn Classic… UMBC will be looking for its 20th all-time victory over both Loyola (Md.) and Mount St. Mary's… Aki Thomas will bring his team into the Burr Gymnasium at Howard University, where he competed during the 2000-01 campaign.
