The UMBC men's basketball team enters its 12th America East Men's Basketball Championship as the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 2 and host Vermont on Wednesday, March 4. RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC (4-25, 2-14 AE) buried 9-of-13 treys and scored 45 points in the second half, but could not dig out of an early hole and fell, 76-69, to host Binghamton at the Events Center in the regular season finale on Saturday. Four Retrievers scored in double figures, led by freshman point guard Jourdan Grant, who led the squad in points (19), rebounds (7) and assists (6). Junior post Cody Joyce, who posted his 22nd game of the season in double figures, scored 18 points. Joyce, the team leader with 13.5 points per game, was just selected to the America East All-Conference Second Team. Grant just became the sixth UMBC DI player to record 100 (117) in his freshman campaign and is one of three UMBC DI freshmen to record 200 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in a season.
CATAMOUNT UPDATE: Vermont (17-12, 12-4 AE) has dropped two of its last three since defeating UMBC, 74-51, back on February 14. The Catamounts couldn't hold a 39-37 lead at Albany on Saturday and fell to the Danes, 79-73. Junior forward Ethan O'Day led Vermont with 19 points and 8 rebounds, but UVM misfired on 12 of 16 three-point attempts in the contest. O'Day, an America East First Team selection, leads the squad with 11.9 points per game and converts 56.7 percent from the floor. Vermont is the conference's best shooting team, as they hit 46.7 percent from the floor.
