Men's Basketball Heads to Binghamton for Regular Season Finale on Saturday Afternoon

The UMBC men's basketball team plays its final regular season game of the 2014-15 campaign as they travel to Vestal, N.Y. to face Binghamton on Saturday, Feb. 28. With a victory or a Maine loss at UNH, the Retrievers will finish seventh and travel to No. 2 Vermont in the America East quarterfinals on March 4. A Retriever loss and Maine victory would send UMBC to face No. 1 Albany. Tip-off time is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Q1370 (www.q1370.com) as Paul Mittermeier describes the action. Streaming is available on www.americaeast.tv.

 

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC (4-24, 2-13 AE) committed ten first half turnovers, leading to 20 Albany points, and the visiting Great Danes clinched the America East regular season title with a 67-49 victory over the Retrievers at the RAC Arena on Wednesday. Junior post Cody Joyce, who posted his 21st game of the season in double figures, led UMBC with 14 points. Joyce, the team leader with 13.3 points per game, averages 16.0 points per game in league play and is tied for the lead in America East scoring. Guard Jourdan Grant just became the sixth UMBC DI player to record 100 (111) in his freshman campaign and is one of three UMBC DI freshmen to record 200 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in a season.

 

BEARCAT UPDATE: Binghamton (5-25, 4-11 AE) has sewed up the sixth seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will travel to No. 3 Stony Brook on Wednesday. The Bearcats just fell to the Seawolves, 64-52, on Feb. 21. Freshman forward Willie Rodriguez recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds and classmate Romello Walker tallied a team-high 17 points. Rodriguez (11.3 ppg overall) averaged 16.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg in two games last week. In AE play, Rodriguez is averaging 12.1 points and ranks second in the league in double-doubles (3). Binghamton is looking to even its AE home court mark at 4-4 for the season.
