The UMBC men's basketball team plays the final game of a four-game homestand and is seeking to break through into the win column after a pair of excruciating losses when they welcome a rejuvenated New Hampshire squad to the RAC Arena on Sunday, Jan. 11. Tip-off time for the contest is set for 1:05 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on Q1370 and streaming will be available on www.umbcretrievers.tv.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: For the second time in three games, UMBC (2-12, 0-1 AE) had the potential last possession of the game with the game in the balance on Wednesday evening versus UMass Lowell. But a thin Retriever squad faltered down the stretch and in overtime and fell to the River Hawks, 73-61. Junior post Cody Joyce (10.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg) posted his first career double-double, recording 18 points and a career-best 11 caroms in 43 minutes of action. Grad student guard Wayne Sparrow continues to lead the squad and is seventh in America East at 12.8 points per outing, while freshman point Jourdan Grant leads America East in assists (4.3) and steals (2.1) per game.
WILDCAT UPDATE: The Wildcats (7-8, 0-2 AE) snapped a five-game slide with an impressive 68-61 over Brown at home on Jan. 8. Two of UNH's setbacks occurred by two points or less. Sophomore forward Jacoby Armstrong led the way over Brown with 17 points. Freshman forward Tanner Leissner has made a huge impact, as he leads a potent attack with 12.4 points per game. UNH leads America East in scoring at 66.9 points per game.
WHO'S UP NEXT: UMBC heads out on Tuesday for a Wednesday evening contest at Stony Brook, before returning home for two games in three days, vs. Vermont (1-17) and Hartford (1-19).
