Cambridge, Mass. – UMBC freshman guard Jourdan Grant (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was named America East Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games ending Dec. 21, 2014.
Grant, who has stuffed the stat sheet all season long, did so again in the Retrievers' 66-53 victory at Kennesaw State. The point guard played all 40 minutes, scoring 11 points, and adding five rebounds, five assists and three steals. He tied his season-high with five (5-of-7) field goals and matched his best effort with the five helpers.
Grant, who recorded the third double-figure scoring game of his career at Kennesaw, leads America East and is ranked 46th (tied) in the nation with 2.2 steals per game. He is also tops in the conference in assists (3.6) per game, is fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0) and tenth in minutes played per game (31.6). Grant has produced 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest through 11 games.
The honor is the first conference award of the season for the Retrievers, who have won two straight heading into Sunday's home contest (5:00 p.m.) with Lehigh.
