UMBC completes its difficult road slate this week, as they play their third contest in five days away from home on Saturday, Dec. 6 when they face Iowa (6-2) in Iowa City. RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC hit 6-of-7 three points field goals in the first half at George Washington on Tuesday to stay in touch with the Colonials, but the hosts eventually pulled away for an 83-60 victory in Washington, D.C.. Freshman guard Malcolm Brent scored a season-high 15 points, burying 4-of-6 from behind the arc. UMBC was plagued by early foul trouble as leading scorers Wayne Sparrow (10.9 ppg) and Cody Joyce (9.3 ppg) were limited and combined to score only six points. Head Coach Aki Thomas announced earlier that day that sophomore guard Rodney Elliott, the 2014 America East Rookie of the Year, and freshman forward Lamell Washington will miss the 2014-15 seasons due to injury.
HAWKEYE UPDATE: Iowa (6-2) has won four consecutive games, including a huge 60-55 triumph at UNC in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge on Dec. 3. JR G Mike Gesell led the way with 16 points. SR F Aaron White, who scored 10 points versus the Tar Heels, averages 15.9 points per game and is 51-of-58 (87.9%) from the free throw line this season. He also leads the squad with 7.6 caroms per contest.
