SET THE SCENE: UMBC and Towson will get together on the basketball court for the 56th time in UMBC's 48 campaigns of intercollegiate basketball. Each team has won on its home court in the last two encounters. UMBC (0-4) is looking to snap a season-opening four game slide, while Towson (5-1) is hoping to extended an early five-game winning streak. RETRIEVER UPDATE: The home court advantage did not help the Retrievers' early season shooting woes, as UMBC misfired on 18 of its last 23 attempts of the contest and fell to visiting Howard, 68-54, on Nov. 25. UMBC has failed to reach the 40 percent mark from the floor in each of its last three contests. Junior post Cody Joyce leads UMBC with 10.8 points per game and 6.3 caroms per contest after corralling a career-best nine rebounds versus Howard. Junior guard Aaron Morgan, starting in place of an injured Rodney Elliott, has averaged 13.5 points per game in the last two outings.
TIGER UPDATE: Towson has won five consecutive games after opening the season with a 82-54 loss at Alabama. TU has won two close battles on the road, prevailing at Morgan State, 51-46, and at Monmouth, 79-75, in overtime. Towson's calling card has been on defense, where they are permitting only 56.2 points per game and have held the opposition to 36.4 percent shooting from the field. Junior guard Four McGlynn leads the Tigers at 13.5 points per contest and has hit 13 treys through six outings. Sophomore forward John Davis averages 10.5 points per game and 9.0 caroms per outing, including 20 offensive rebounds in six games.
WHO'S UP NEXT: UMBC will play three road games in the span of five days next week, starting with a Tuesday, Dec. 2 contest at UMES.
