Men's Basketball Visits Maine for Early Saturday Matinee

SET THE SCENE: The UMBC men's basketball team heads right back onto the road when they travel to Orono, Maine to take on the Maine Black Bears at Alfond Arena on Sat., Jan.5 at noon. The Retrievers have had success at Alfond, winning four times in the last five meetings. Due to the women's basketball team hosting Maine on Saturday afternoon, (2:00 p.m.), there will be no local radio coverage for this contest. RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC (0-1, 2-12) committed 15 second- half fouls and host Albany took advantage, outscoring the Retrievers, 20-5, from the charity stripe for the game and winning the America East opener for both teams, 65-48, at SEFCU Arena. JR F Brett Roseboro was the Retrievers' America East Player of the Game, amassing 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Senior guard Ryan Cook added 12 points for the visitors, who dropped their seventh consecutive contest. Cook (16.6 ppg) has scored in double figures in nine consecutive games.

 

BLACK BEAR UPDATE: Maine (1-0, 6-8) has won three in a row, including a come-from-behind 63-58 victory over Boston U. in the league opener for both teams on Wednesday. JR F Alasdair Fraser led the hosts in the game with 17 points. A preseason All-Conference selection is averaging 13.3 and a league-best 9.1 rebounds per outing. SO G Justin Edwards leads Maine with 17.9 points per game.

 

WHO'S UP NEXT: The Retrievers open the home America East Conference schedule on Wed., Jan. 9 when they host the New Hampshire Wildcats.
