Cambridge, Mass.- The America East Conference revealed the 2013 men's basketball league schedule today and UMBC will open its tenth league season with a pair of road games.
The 16-game slate is highlighted by a three-game homestand for the Retrievers in early February and home dates in three of the last four weekends in conference play.
UMBC opens conference play at Albany on Wed., Jan 2 and then will travel to Maine for a Sat., Jan. 5 date. The Retrievers open the home league schedule on Wed., Jan. 9 when they welcome New Hampshire to the RAC Arena.
After playing three of the next five games on the road, UMBC opens February with home dates vs. Maine (Sat., Feb. 2), Albany (Wed., Feb. 6) and America East defending champion Vermont (Sat., Feb. 9).
UMBC concludes league play with a Sat., Feb. 23 home date vs. Boston University, a Thurs., Feb. 28 contest at Hartford and a Sun., March 3 visit from Binghamton.
Game times and the America East television schedule contests will be announced next month.
Following the conclusion of the regular seasons, the 2013 America East Men's and Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinal and semifinal round action will take place March 8-10. For the first time, the combined tournament will head to University at Albany's SEFCU Arena, site of the 2009 Men's Championship as well as the 2006 men's title game and the 2012 women's title game. The 2013 championship tilts will then be held the following week at the site of the highest remaining seeds. The men's championship game will be on Saturday, March 16, with the women's title tilt tentatively scheduled for that date, but subject to change due to television.
