Men's Basketball Gets Back in Action at Towson on Saturday Evening
In its 45-year varsity basketball history, the Towson Tigers are UMBC's most frequently-contested opponent and the two squads will meet for the 53rd time on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Towson Center. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. and Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier bring fans all the action on V1370 radio or www.fox1370.com.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC has not played since Dec. 1, when the Retrievers nearly cooled off a hot American team, but fell in Washington, D.C., 69-58. UMBC trailed by only six points with two minutes to play, but converted only 2 of 16 shots from behind the arc during the game and did not manage a late rally. Sophomore forward Chase Plummer scored in double figures for the sixth time in seven games, recording 18 points and adding nine rebounds. This contest ends a five-game road swing for UMBC (0-7).
TIGER UPDATE: Towson fell to 0-8 on the young season with an 89-51 setback to visiting La Salle on Dec. 7. The Explorers buried 14 (of 27) treys in the game and Tiger foes have hit nearly 40 of their shots behind the arc this season. TU has lost contests to the likes of Kansas, Michigan, Oregon State and U. Mass. Sophomore forward Marcus Damas (12.4 ppg) and senior frontcourt mate Robert Nwankwo (11.4 ppg, 9.0 rpg) lead the Tiger attack.
WHO'S UP NEXT: UMBC returns to the RAC Arena for the first time since Nov. 17 on Wed., Nov. 14, when they welcome local rival Morgan State for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
