Men's Basketball Heads to Garden State to Take on Rutgers in Monday Night Action

UMBC at Rutgers, 11-28-11

The UMBC men's basketball team (0-5) has been tied with 10 minutes remaining in each of the last two games, but has been unable to finish and are still searching for their first win of the season. Rutgers (3-3) is undefeated in three home games this season and will be looking to snap a two game skid sustained at the Cancun Challenge last week. Tip-off time is set for 7:30 p.m. and Paul Mittermeier brings fans all the play-by-play action on V1370 radio or www.fox1370.com.

RETRIEVER UPDATEChase Plummer led four Retrievers in double figures with a career-high 20 points, but UMBC could not finish down the stretch and fell at Central Connecticut, 77-69 on Tuesday. For the second time in three games, a Retriever foe enjoyed a decided advantage at the free throw line. UMBC hit five more field goals (29-24) than Central, but the Blue Devils were 23-of-30 from the free throw line, while the visitors were just 4-of-10.

SCARLET KNIGHT UPDATE: Rutgers, under the direction of second-year head coach Mike Rice, is coming off a 58-53 loss to Richmond Wednesday evening in the consolation game of the Cancun Challenge. Sophomore forward Gilvydas Biruta was named to the All-Tournament Team. In the two contests played at the Moon Palace Resort, he averaged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. For the season, Biruta leads the Scarlet Knights in scoring (12.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.2), while shooting 51.9 percent (28-54).
