UMBC will open the 2012-13 men’s basketball campaign at the University of Pennsylvania and play six non-conference home games before America East Conference competition, it was announced today by head coach Randy Monroe.
West Hartford, Conn.- Sophomore forward Chase Plummer (Plainfield, N.J./St. Patrick) was selected to the America East Conference Second Team, it was announced today at the University of Harford, site of the 2012 championships.
BALTIMORE- Despite a game-high 21 points from sophomore forward Chase Plummer (Plainfield, N.J.), host UMBC could not recover from a horrid shooting first half and fell to Boston University, 73-52, in the final home contest of the 2011-12 campaign.
UMBC plays its final home game of the 2011-12 season when they host the Boston University Terriers on Wed., Feb. 22. The Retrievers’ lone senior, post Jake Wasco, will be honored in pregame ceremonies.
Buffalo, N.Y. – The UMBC men’s basketball team was unable to come back from an early deficit in their Sears Bracket Busters game against MAAC foe Canisius as they fell, 73-66 at the Koessler Athletic Center
The BU Events Center has been a house of horrors for UMBC, as the Retrievers have just one victory in nine previous contests vs. the Bearcats. Both teams are hungry for a victory- UMBC has dropped seven straight since a win over Binghamton on Jan. 19, while BU is desperately searching for its first triumph over the season.
UMBC goes for a series sweep and give themselves a potential tie-breaker edge over New Hampshire when the Retrievers and Wildcats meet in a Sunday matinee (1:00 p.m.) on Sunday, Feb. 12. For the second consecutive game, the Retrievers will be without head coach Randy Monroe, who suffered a death in the family and remains in Aiken, S.C.
BALTIMORE, MD. – The UMBC men’s basketball team came back from a ten-point second half deficit to force overtime, but could not pull off the upset, losing to Maine, 77-76, Saturday afternoon at the RAC Arena.
Albany, N.Y.- UMBC junior guard Ryan Cook (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) scored a team season-best 28 points, but Albany’s Gerardo Suero countered with 32 to lead the host Great Danes to an 87-76 victory at SEFCU Arena.
Boston, Mass.- Senior guard Darryl Partin, the nation’s 16th-leading scorer, produced 17 points and the host Boston University Terriers extended their winning streak to seven straight with a 83-48 victory over UMBC at a rowdy Case Gymnasium.
UMBC and Boston complete the first half of the conference schedule when they take the court at Case Gymansium on Tues., Jan. 24. Tonight’s game is the 1200th in UMBC’s 45 years of intercollegiate basketball.
BALTIMORE- Junior guards Ryan Cook (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) and Brian Neller (Red Bank, N.J) scored and 20 points and 16 points respectively and led UMBC to a 64-58 victory over Binghamton in America East Conference action.
West Hartford, Conn.- UMBC’s defensive struggles continued as the host Hartford Hawks hit 51 percent from the floor and buried 11 of 24 attempts from behind the arc and defeated the Retrievers, 74-57, at Chase Family Arena.
