Men's Basketball's "Last Growl" Features Match-Up With Hartford on Saturday Evening at the RAC

UMBC faces a must-win situation when the Hartford Hawks visits on Saturday, Feb. 19 on a night where the men's basketball program honors four student-athletes competing at the RAC Arena for the final time.  A Retriever loss would clinch a spot in the Thursday, March 3 First Round game at the America East Tournament. Fans can catch all the action on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier on the call, beginning with the pregame show at 6:55 p.m. Pregame ceremonies to honor Justin FryLaurence Jolicoeur, Travis Kingand Bakari Smith will push tip-off time to approximately 7:15 p.m.

  

RETRIEVER UPDATE: After an impressive win at Maine on Feb. 6, UMBC has been outmatched badly in the last three games, trailing by 22, 29 and 18 points at halftime in losses to Vermont, UNH, and, most recently, at Boston U. on Feb. 15.  Junior guardChris De La Rosa's production has tailed off, but his overall numbers of 16.1 points, 6.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per contest are still outstanding for the season.

HAWK UPDATE: Hartford has dropped six of the last seven games, including a 77-47 home setback to Binghamton on Wednesday. The Hawks were outrebounded, 45-15 and Binghamton hit 10 of 16 shots from beyond the arc. Senior standout guard Joe Zeglinski, who scored a career-high 33 points in the Hawks' Feb. 10 win over Maine, averages 13.6 points per game, but forwardMorgan Sabia is the team leader at 14.0 points per contest.

 

WHO'S UP NEXT:  UMBC plays its final regular season game on Wed., Feb. 23, when they play at Albany (7:00 p.m.)
