De La Rosa Returns to Form With 25 Points, but Men's Basketball Falls at Albany, 83-67

Albany, N.Y.-The host Albany Great Danes buried 13 of 25 shots behind the arc and defeated UMBC, 83-67 before 2,638 fans at SEFCU Arena.

 

UMBC junior guard Chris De La Rosa led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 9-of-18 shots from the floor. He was the Retrievers' America East Player of the Game.

 

The Great Danes hit 10 of their first 16 shots from the floor and built a 27-8 advantage at the 10:46 mark of the half. After scoring eight points in first 9:36, UMBC scored 20 in last 9:24, but the Great Danes hit six of 14 shots from behind the arc and took a 44-28 lead into the break.

 

Jamar Wertz follow cut the deficit to 53-40 with 13:26 to go, but Albany went on a 8-1 run to gain a comfortable margin.

 

Freshman Chase Plummer added 10 points, while Wertz and sophomore guard Brian Neller added nine each.

 

Four Great Danes scored in double figures, led by Logan Aronhalt's 19 points.

 

Albany hit 30 of 55 shots for the game (54.5%), while UMBC was 26 of 59 (44.1%).

 

UMBC will compete in the first round of the America East Tournament on Thursday, March 3.
