Nate Stewart has been named head men's basketball coach at Eastern University in St. David's, Pa., it was announced by Eastern's Director of Athletics Brad Fields.
Stewart had served as UMBC's assistant men's basketball coach since the 2006-07 season and was the longest-tenured assistant in head coach Randy Monroe's seven years at the helm.
The Christianburg, Va. native was a member of the staff which guided the Retrievers to an America East regular season and tournament championship in the 2007-08 campaign and a return trip to the league's title contest the following season.
Eastern University competes in the Freedom Conference, an NCAA Division III league under the umbrella of the 22-member Middle Atlantic Conferences. The Eagles recorded a mark of 12-12 on the hardwood in the 2010-11 season.
