Men's Basketball Begins "Third Season" vs. Binghamton in First Round of America East Tourney in Hartford on March 3
UMBC gets set to take the court for its eighth America East Conference Tournament as they face nemesis Binghamton in the first round game of the 2011 championships on Thursday, March 3 in West Hartford, Conn. (8:15 p.m.) The two teams have only met once in tournament play with the Bearcats defeating the Retrievers in the 2009 title game. The winner will face top-seeded Vermont on Saturday,March 5 at 2:15 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein on the call, beginning with the pregame show at 8:05 p.m.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: A�� er an impressive win at Maine on Feb. 6, UMBC has been outmatched badly in the last five games, trailing by 22, 29, 18, 16 and 16 points at halftime in their current five-game losing streak. Junior guard Chris De La Rosa bounced back from a mini-slump to score 25 points in last Wednesday's 83-67 loss at Albany.
BEARCAT UPDATE: Binghamton has dropped 12 of it last 13 contests, interrupted by a 77-47 win at Hartford on Feb. 16. The Bearcats hit only 13 field goals in a 67-42 loss at Stony Brook on Sunday. A preseason All-Conference pick, senior forward Greer Wright had returned from an ankle injury
and has scored 29 points in his last two outings.
WHO'S UP NEXT: Should UMBC advance, they would take on Vermont for the fourth ��me in the last fi ve America East Conference tournaments. The Catamounts have won three of the previous four meetings, excluding a UMBC semifi nal win in 2008.
