Men's Basketball Hosts Rare MLK Day Contest; Welcomes Boston U. In Evening Affair

Boston U. at UMBC (Jan. 17 2011)  

 

UMBC will host an America East contest for the first time ever on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as they entertain the red-hot Boston University Terriers. Fans can catch all the action on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier on the call, beginning with the pregame show at 6:55 p.m. The game is also available on www.umbcretrievers.tv.

 



RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC (1-16, 0-4) has struggled in the second halves of the last three games, being outscored by 53 points in consecutive losses to Maine, Binghamton and Vermont. Junior guard Chris De La Rosa (team-high 16.9 ppg) and is averaging an America East-high 22.8 points per game in four league games to date.

 

TERRIER UPDATE: Boston U. (8-10, 3-1 America East) snapped a seven-game road losing streak with a come-from-behind 70-67 win at Albany on Saturday night. Senior wing John Holland, the 2010 America East Player of the Year, led the rally with 27 points and he leads the conference with 18.8 points per game. The Terriers are in the midst of a season-high three-game winning streak. Junior forward Jake O'Brien (11.6 points per game) has not played in a league game to date.

 



Who's Up Next: UMBC heads back to the road for two additional games this week, playing at Hartford on Thursday and returning to New England for a Sunday matinee at New Hampshire.
