Men's Basketball Aims For Another America East Front Runner; Hosts First-Place Vermont on Wednesday Evening

The suddenly surging UMBC Retrievers take on the America East's top squad in the Vermont Catamounts at the RAC Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 7:05 p.m. UMBC has won back-to-back games, including an upset of second place Maine, 84-79, in Orono on Sunday. Vermont has won seven straight games and is aiming for victory No. 20 on the campaign. RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC, now 4-3 in their last seven outings, topped season highs in scoring in both victories last week and shot a season-high 53.7% in the 84-79 win over Maine. Junior guard Chris De La Rosa scored 24 points, added six rebounds and a career-best 13 assists. Grad. forward Justin Fryadded a career-high 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor.

CATAMOUNT UPDATE: Vermont throttled Stony Brook, 65-42, in Burlington on Sunday, forcing 24 Seawolf turnovers. Sophomore wing Brendan Bald led Vermont with 19 points. Senior low post Evan Fjeld leads a balanced Vermont attack with 15.3 points and 6.4 caroms per game and has rejected 45 shots.
