Chris De La Rosa Named America East Men's Basketball Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Junior Chris De La Rosa (Washington Heights, N.Y./All Hallows/Siena) has been named the America East Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 23, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

De La Rosa led the Retrievers to a 2-1 week, including UMBC's first two conference wins of the season, pacing the team with 17.0 points per game and 6.7 assists per game while playing 127 out of a possible 130 minutes. He led UMBC with 23 points and five assists in a come-from-behind 71-67 victory over Boston University on Monday night, before dialing in eight assists and seven rebounds in 48 minutes while feeling the effects of the flu in a 74-70 double overtime win at Hartford Thursday. He concluded the week with a game-high 23 points, seven assists and three steals in a loss at New Hampshire on Sunday.

De La Rosa is second in the America East in conference contests with 20.3 points per game and leads the league with 6.1 assists per game. He also currently paces the league with 40.4 minutes per game and is shooting .469 from the field, good enough for sixth.

The Retrievers return to action Wednesday when they host America East rival Albany at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) and is broadcast live at http://www.umbcretrievers.tv.
