Men's Basketball Seeks to Repeat Success at Maine's Alfond Arena in Super Bowl Sunday Matinee
The Retrievers will be in action on Super Bowl Sunday, as UMBC
travels to Orono, Maine to take on the Black Bears at Alfond Arena
on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2:00 p.m. UMBC's last win in a day time
affair took place at Maine on Jan. 30 of 2010 and the Retrievers
have won three straight times at Alfond Arena. Fans can catch all
the action on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Steve
Levy on the call, beginning with the pregame show at 1:55 p.m.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: Five of the Retrievers' last six games have come down to the wire, including Thursday's drmatic 83-79 over triumph over Binghamton. The Retrievers bounced back from a poor offensive showing at Stony Brook to score a season-high 83 points vs. the Bearcats. Five Retrievers scored in double figures, paced by sophomore guard Brian Neller, who posted 21 points. UMBC's four wins have been by a total of 13 points.
BLACK BEAR UPDATE: Maine just saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end, as the Black Bears fell, 88-78, at Boston U. on Wednesday. Senior forward Troy Barnies, who burned UMBC for 25 points and 11 caroms in the first meeting, had 26 and 10 vs. the Terriers. he leads the team at 14.6 points per game and is averaging 18.4 per contest in 10 league games. Sharp-shooting junior guard Gerald McLemore (12.9 ppg overall) hit three treys per contest in league play.
