UMBC Hosts Maine in Saturday Afternoon America East Match-Up

UMBC plays its second America East Conference of the campaign when they host the Maine Black Bears on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2:00 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier on the call, beginning with the pregame show at 1:55 p.m. The game is also video-streamed at www.umbcretrievers.tv.

 



RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC (1-13, 0-1) erased all but one point of a 16-point first-half deficit, but could not complete the rally and fell to visiting Stony Brook, 64-56, on Jan. 2. UMBC struggled frmo the floor, hitting only 35 percent for the game. Junior guard Chris De La Rosa (team-high 15.2 ppg) continued his outstanding play with 16 points and is averaging 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per game over his last six outings.

 

BLACK BEAR UPDATE: Maine (7-7, 1-1) has posted some outstanding victories this season, defeating U. Mass (68-56) and Penn State (74-64) on the road and the Black Bears opened America East play with a 65-52 win over Boston U. last Sunday. But Maine dropped a home decision, 61-59 to Hartford on Wednesday. Senior forward Troy Barnies leads a balanced attack with 12.1 points per game, including a team-high 18 points in the loss to the Hawks.

 



Who's Up Next: UMBC will play four of its next five America East games on the road, beginning with a Wed., Jan. 12 contest at Binghamton (7:00 p.m.).
