Men's Basketball Returns North to Face Defending Champion Vermont on Saturday Afternoon
No America East team has given the UMBC Retrievers more headaches than the Vermont Catamounts. The Retrievers have dropped nine straight to Vermont and trail the all-time series, 18-4. But UMBC (1-2, 3-13) is coming in off of a 68-57 win over New Hampshire on Jan. 9, while Vermont (2-1, 9-6) is looking to rebound from a 63-53 setback at Boston U. on Jan. 8. The opening tap is slated for 3:00 p.m. and all of the action is available on Q1370 or www.q1370.com with Paul Mittermeier on the call.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: Ryan Cook led all scorers with 21 points and a retooled lineup propelled the Retrievers to a 68-57 victory over New Hampshire in an America East Conference match-up at the RAC Arena. SR F Adrian Satchell (5/5 fg, 11 pts.) and JR G Quentin Jones (4a) got starting nods and sparked the effort. Cook scored 20 or more points for the sixth time this season and leads UMBC with 16.5 ppg.
CATAMOUNT UPDATE: Defending America East champion Vermont opened the league season at 2-0 before suffering a 63-53 setback at Boston University on Jan. 8.
