RED FLASH DEFEATS UMBC MEN'S BASKETBALL, 72-64

    Freshman swingman Darshan Luckey scored 28 points to lead visiting St. Francis University of Pennsylvania (11-10, 7-5 NEC) to a 72-64 Northeast Conference victory over UMBC (6-16, 4-9 NEC) for the Red Flash's first-ever victory at the RAC Arena. The Red Flash were winless in six previous trips to Baltimore. The loss as UMBC's fifth in a row as they played without injured guards Justin Wilson and Rob Gogerty for the second straight game. St. Francis led for most of the first half, but behind Kareem Washington's 13 first half points, UMBC clawed back to a 17-all tie after Washington converted a three-point play with 6:29 to play in the half. But St. Francis outscored UMBC, 19-4 to end the half with a 36-21 lead. The Retrievers missed 11 of their final 12 shots from the field in the half. The Retrievers rallied and got as close as six points at 57-51 with 4:03 to play. But Red Flash guard Erick Wills buried a three-point goal on the next possession to begin a 8-0 run which put the game away. Luckey was 6 of 19 from the floor, but hit all 14 of his free throw attempts. He added 6 steals and five rebounds. Wills added 14 points and sophomore Larry Gibson pitched in with 12 points. Washington led UMBC with 19 points, while freshman John Zito had his first "double-double" with 17 points and 10 rebounds. UMBC outrebounded St. Francis, 44-29, but committed 21 turnovers.
