Junior Kareem Washington scored 21 of his game-high 23 points in the second half, as UMBC (3-0, 1-0 NEC) defeated rival Mt. But Washington's six points sparked a 17-4 surge by UMBC, capped by Rob Gogerty's three-point goal, which put the Retrievers ahead, 50-30, with 8:07 remaining. Hatcher scored a season-best 9 points. The Mountaineers were led by Atangana and freshman Kiel Butler, who scored 12 points each, and freshman guard Landy Thompson added 10 points.
