Chris De La Rosa Named America East Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Cambridge, Mass.—UMBC sophomore guard Chris De La Rosa (Washington Heights, N.Y./Siena/All Hallows) was named America East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games ending Feb. 28, 2010.
De La Rosa scored 16 of high game-high 23 points in the first half as UMBC finished the regular season with a 79-50 rout of host UNH on Feb. 24. His seven assists gave him 147 on the season, the seventh-best single season figure in school history.
The 23-point performance vs. the Wildcats was the Siena transfer’s fifth game with 20 or more points on the season. He leads the conference with 5.1 assists per game and is ranked second in assist to turnover ratio at 2.10. De La Rosa is also sixth in free throw percentage (77.8%), eighth in steals (1.1 per game) and 13th in field goal percentage (42.5%) in the America East Conference. He is averaging 11.8 points per game in his first season with the Retrievers.
