Men's Basketball Looks to Bring Road "Mojo" To RAC Arena as Retrievers Host Albany on Saturday Evening

    Perhaps the UMBC Retrievers should wear black uniforms on game night or stay in a hotel before they battle visiting Albany Great Danes in an America East contest on Saturday, Feb. 13. UMBC has won two straight games on the road, but are still searching for the the first home win of the season. Tip-off time is set for 7:05 p.m.and the game will be broadcast by Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com, Gary Stein, Paul Mittermeier) and streamed on www.umbcretrievers.tv.   

    RETRIEVER UPDATE:  UMBC produced its most convicing victory of the year, setting a school record with 39 made free throws, in Thursday’s 78-70 win at Hartford. Guards Chauncey Gilliam (career-high 26 points, 9 rebounds) and Chris De La Rosa (22 points, 5 assists) paced UMBC’s effort. Gilliam has scored in double figures in nine straight and averages 15.3 points per game (5th) in America East games.

    DANES’ UPDATE: Since their seven-point Jan. 16 win over UMBC, Albany has dropped eight straight games. On Tuesday, UA fell, 62-53, to visiting New Hampshire. Newcomers Fran Urli and Mike Black led Albany with 14 points each. Junior guard Tim Ambrose, who scored 21 points in the win over UMBC, leads the Great Danes at 13.3 points per outing. 

    UP NEXT:  UMBC will play its final home game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 16 when they host league-leading Stony Brook at 7:00 p.m. It will be the final home game in the career of Matt Spadafora.
