Men's Basketball Ventures to Maine for Saturday Noon Contest

    The UMBC Retrievers will face off against the league-leading Maine Black Bears today and face a rematch at the RAC Arena just nine days later. Tip-off time is set for 12:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live by Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Steve Levy on the call. 

    RETRIEVER UPDATE:  The Retrievers fell for the 11th straight time on Wednesday, losing an 80-63 decision to the visiting Binghamton Bearcats. Binghamton scored a season-high in points in the game and snapped a five-game losing streak at the RAC Arena. Sophomore wing Chauncey Gilliam scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, leading the hosts with 18 points. Sophomore guard Chris De La Rosa leads the America East in assists with 4.9 per game and is second in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.10.

    BLACK BEARS’ UPDATE: The surprising Black Bears have won six straight games and are getting contributions up and down their roster. Sophomore guard Gerald McLemore leads the attack with 14.5 points per game and has hit 64 three-point field goals this season. Maine held Boston U. to 34.5 percent shooting in Wednesday’s 56-54 win in Orono.  

    UP NEXT:  UMBC has the week off before hosting Vermont at the RAC Arena on Hall of Fame Day. Tip-off time is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6.
