Men's Basketball Heads to American University for Saturday Matinee

    UMBC faces  American Univeristy for the third consecutive year on Saturday, Dec. 19 in Washington, D.C. The road team has won the previous two encounters in 2007 and 2008. Both teams have played in their league title games in each of the past two seasons, with AU winning back-to-back Patriot League itles and UMBC taking an America East  crown in 2008. Tip-off time is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live by Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier on the call. 
     
    RETRIEVER UPDATE:  An injury-riddled UMBC (0-9) squad fell to Rider, 79-67, at the RAC Arena on Dec. 12 and the Retrievers are in the midst of final exames. Sophomore guard Chris De La Rosa has picked up the pace, with double figures in four straight games and the point guard is eigthh in the nation in assists at 6.3 per game.

    EAGLES’ UPDATE:  Transfer Vlad Moldoveanu scored 26 points in his Eagle debut, leading American to a 62-57 win at DePaul on Wednesday. The 6-foot-9 forward hit five of ten shots from behind the arc. Today’s contest will be American’s (2-8) seventh home game of the season.

    UP NEXT: UMBC travels to Blacksburg, Va. to face ACC power Virginia Tech on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
