Men's Basketball Plays Final Home Game of 2009 as Retrievers Entertain Rider on Saturday Evening

    UMBC will play its lone home game in a 43-day span when they entertain Rider University on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the RAC Arena. Tip-off time is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live by Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier on the call. and the game can be seen on www.umbcretrievers.tv.
     
    RETRIEVER UPDATE:  UMBC led down the stretch in the first half, but could not overcome the absence of its leading scorer (Chauncey Gilliam) and rebounder (Robbie Jackson) and fell at 2009 NIT Champion Penn State, 58-42 on Tuesday. Both players suffered ankle injuries in back-to-back games at Toledo (Jackson) and Penn State (Gillliam). Sophomore guard Chris De La Rosa has picked up the pace, with double figures in three straight games and the point guard is fourth in the nation in assists (now 6.5) per game.

    BRONCS’ UPDATE:  Rider has posted some impressive winsin its 6-4 start to the season. The Broncs opened the season with an 88-74 win at 18th-ranked Mississippi State and defeated St. Joseph’s ,81-73, on Nov. 30. Rider fell in its most recent outing, dropping a 69-60 home decision to La Salle. Senior wing Ryan Thompson leads four Broncs in double figures with 14.5 points per game. 

    UP NEXT: After starting final exams next week, UMBC opens another four-game road swing next Saturday, Dec. 20, when they head back to Washington, D.C. to take on American (2:00 p.m.).
