Men's Basketball Visits Toledo in Saturday Matinee
12/4/2009
UMBC will complete a home-and-home series with a contest at Toledo at John P. Savage Arena on Sat., Dec. 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Rockets visited Baltimore last summer and the Retrievers came out with a 61-56 victory. The game will be broadcast live by Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) with Paul Mittermeier on the call.
RETRIEVER UPDATE: In five of its six games, a young UMBC squad (0-6) has trailed by four points or fewer inside the 7-minute mark of the second half. On Wednesday at Towson, freshman wing Shawn Grant exploded with 28 points, but a UMBC rally fell just short at Towson, as the Tigers prevailed, 82-77. Grant (12.8 ppg) has now scored in double in the last four games. Sophomore wing Chauncey Gilliam (13.8 ppg) leads the Retriever attack.
ROCKETS’ UPDATE: Toledo (1-6) also started its season with six consecutive losses, but hit the win column with a 65-46 victory over Rochester (Minn.) College on Wednesday. In its previous outing, UT was defeated by UMBC rival Vermont, 82-49. The Rockets feature nine freshmen, and are led in scoring by first-year player guard Stephen Albrecht (13.1 ppg).
UP NEXT: The Toledo game is the third in a stretch of eight road games in nine overall for UMBC. The Retrievers travel to Penn State to face the NIttany Lions on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
