Greene, Gilliam Earn America East Men's Basketball Weekly Honors; Retrievers To Face League-Leading Vermont at RAC Arena on Tuesday

    The UMBC Retrievers (12-13, 6-7 America East) take on the first-place Vermont Catamounts (20-7, 11-3) in the season’s penultimate home game at the RAC Arena. The game can be heard on Fox 1370 Sports. (www.fox1370.com) (Gary Stein, Paul Mittermeier) and seen in the region on Comcast Sportsnet Plus (Eric Frede, Frank Sullivan).

    RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC is riding its first three-game winning streak of the year, after Satruday’s 80-63 win at Hartford. Senior guard Jay Greene and freshman wing Chauncey Gilliam were named America East Conference Men’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week respectively, for the week ending Feb. 15, 2008. Greene averaged 28.0 points per game last week, hitting 10 of 14 shots from behind the arc, while Gilliam averaged 12.5 points per game.

    CATAMOUNT UPDATE: Vermont reclaimed first place in the America East Conference with a 69-64 overtime win over Stony Brook in Burlington on Sunday. The Catamounts have won 10 of their last 11 games. Senior guard Mike Trimboli (team-leading 16.1 ppg) led UVM with 25 points in the win over the Seawolves.

    Who’s Up Next: UMBC will compete in  its first ESPNU Bracketbusters series on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Retrievers travel to New Jersey to face Rider at 4:00 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox 1370 Sports. (www.fox1370.com) (Paul Mittermeier)
