2/13/2009

  • UMBC at Hartford, '09

The UMBC Retrievers (11-13, 5-7 America East) travel to the only America East venue they have never won in, as they face the Hartford Hawks (6-20, 2-10) at Chase Family Arena in a Saturday (2:00 p.m.) matinee. The game can be heard on Fox 1370 Sports. (www.fox1370.com) (Paul Mittermeier)

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC is looking for its first three-game winning streak of the year, coming off back-to-back five-point wins over Maine (73-68, ot) and UNH (81-76) in a four-day span. Junior starting forward Justin Fry (8.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg in league games) suffered a knee injury late in the game at Maine and did not dress vs. UNH. Senior guard Jay Greene (career-high 36 points) and senior forward Darryl Proctor (23 points, 10 rebounds) carried the seven-man squad in the stirring win over the Wildcats.

HAWK UPDATE: The Jan. 10 loss at UMBC started the Hawks on a nine-game losing streak, although seven of the setbacks have been in singles digits. Senior guard Michael Turner leads UH in scoring in league games at 14.0 ppg and tallied 26 in Wednesday’s tough 68-63 setback at Maine. Senior guard Jaret von Rosenberg averages 12.8 ppg and leads the league in free throw percentage at 85.0%.

Who’s Up Next: UMBC heads home to entertain league-leading Vermont on Tuesday. The game will be televised by Comcast Sportsnet Plus in the mid-Atlantic region.
