Darryl Proctor Named America East Men's Basketball co-Player of the Week

Cambridge, Mass.--UMBC senior forward Darryl Proctor (District Heights, Md./Paul IV) has been named America East Conference co-Player of the Week for games ending Jan. 11, 2008. Proctor shares the award with Boston University sophomore wing John Holland.

Proctor continued his torrid pace, as he scored a game-high 26 points, leading the host Retrievers to a 61-59 victory over Maine at the RAC Arena on Saturday. He made 12 of 14 from the floor and hit both free throw attempts in all 40 minutes of action. He also corralled a team-high eight rebounds and added two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots.

Proctor is averaging 27 points per game in his last three outings and the 12 made field goals on Saturday was the most he has garnered in a Retriever uniform. His 26-point effort vs. Maine was his 90th career game in double figures. Proctor has scored in double figures in 22 straight games, setting the mark for the longest streak of his career and a new UMBC Division I record. Sonique Nixon posted doubles in 16 straight games in the 1991-92 season.

He currently leads the conference in rebounding (8.9 per game) and minutes played (38.8), is second in scoring (19.6 ppg) and fifth in field goal percentage (49.8%).

It is his second career honor, as he captured the award on Jan. 7, 2008, after averaging 18.5 ppg and 13.0 rpg in UMBC’s conference wins over Stony Brook and UNH.

UMBC (7-7, 1-1 America East) resumes action on Wednesday evening at New Hampshire (5-8, 1-1).
