Men's Basketball To Unveil 2008 Championship Banner Before Saturday's Season Opener vs. Stevenson

UMBC opens its 41st season of intercollegiate basketball and its 23rd at the NCAA Division I level as the Retrievers host NCAA Division III member Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:12 p.m. Before the game, UMBC will unveil its championship banner for winning the 2008 America East Conference title and advancing to its first NCAA Division I Championship tournament.
Saturday’s game can be heard on the new FOX1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com) and live video streaming is available at www.umbcretrievers.tv .
UMBC, which set a school record with 24 victories in 2007-08, has an all-time record of 458-630 (.421) and a Division I mark of 265-361(.424). The Retrievers have a current seven-game home winning streak alive and have won 15 of its last 16 games at the RAC Arena.
Mustang Update: Stevenson University, formerly known as the Villa Julie College will also be playing its first game of the season. The Mustangs finished with a 7-19 overall record in their first season in the Capital Athletic Conference. Returning for the Mustangs is sophomore guard Greg Woody who led the team in points, steals, and minutes. Last season he was named to the Capital Athletic Conference second-team.
Who’s Up Next: The Retrievers travel across town to take on Morgan State on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. The Bears are picked to win the MEAC by the league’s coaches and will be looking to avenge last season’s 84-76 Retriever win at the RAC Arena.
