Poll
Men's Soccer was picked third in the America East preseason poll. How do you think they will fare in 2010?
They will exceed expectations and capture a regular season and/or tournament title.
Meet expectations; earn a playoff spot, but not have the juice to win a championship.
The league could "stand on its head" again this year, but the lower ranked teams rising above the preseason favorites. Retrievers might be in danger of having the bubble burst.

10/27/2008

Cambridge, Mass.—UMBC senior guard Jay Greene (Whitehall, Pa.) has been named to the 2008-09 America East Preseason All-Conference team in voting conducted by the conference’s head men’s basketball coaches.

Greene was one of two first team All-Conference selections from the 2007-08 America East champion Retrievers. He was also the Reggie Lewis Most Outstanding Player at the league’s championship. Greene finished fourth in the nation with 7.3 assists per game and ranked second in the country with a 3.47 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Joining Greene on the five-member team are Vermont senior guard Mike Trimboli, Hartford junior guard Joe Zeglinski, Boston University guard Corey Lowe and Vermont junior forward and 2007-08  America East Player of the Year Marqus Blakely.

The announcement of the preseason all-conference team and the coaches’ poll occurred earlier today at America East’s Media Day, held at the Fort Orange Club in Albany, N.Y.  Albany will host the 2008-09 America East Championships (March 6-8, 2009).

It was also announced that UMBC senior forward Darryl Proctor (District Heights, Md./Paul IV/Coppin State) placed sixth in the voting after earning first team league honors last season.

The Retrievers were tabbed to place fourth in the conference in voting by the league’s head coaches. Boston University garnered five of nine first place votes and edged Vermont by a single point to become the choice as the pre-season favorite. Hartford, runners-up to the Retrievers last season, was selected in third place.
